• Reduce Maternal Mortality - Creating awareness of this devastating and chronic issue. Why should such joy and gift, end in the devastating loss of a mother's life, leaving a husband and families torn; and young babies orphans with no one to care for them?
According to World Health Organization (WHO), maternal mortality is the second most common cause of death among Ghanaian women. In Ghana, over 2,600 women die annually due to perinatal complications, putting the country in the 25th percentile ranking in comparison to the world. We believe having the right conversations and partnering with hospitals, nurses, obstetricians and gynecologists here in the US to impart "best practices" onto hospitals and caregivers in Ghana will help us meet our goal. We believe when something is not working, it must be the desire to find a benchmark to emulate and put programs and systems in place to attain excellence.
Let's tackle this National Emergency in Ghana by bringing change to the health care system for Expectant mothers and make this problem an issue of the past!

• Hospital-- Statistics dating to 2003 indicate that approximately 30,000 people have died from HIV/AIDS and an estimated 350,000 are living with the disease. Further the life expectancy for a Ghanaian female is only 60 years, while for a male it is only 58 years. In addition to improving the landscape of the region, Royal Atlantic Resources will also implement humanitarian efforts to advance health care in this region and to promote longer life through such health initiatives. For $200,000 Brighten Your World will contract with engineers for the construction of a hospital/healthcare facility and partner with the government to keep the facility operating once built.
• Mobile Clinics - Preventative measures for the promotion of good health will also be a part of our overall strategy for wellness. Designed to work in tandem with the building of a hospital, mobile units may be dispatched for individuals whom do not have transportation or whom may be geographically limited. These mobile units would be equipped with the necessary infrastructure to test for diseases in the local community and facilitate vital screenings such as blood pressure assessments, vision & hearing tests and mammograms. Units equipped with these resources cost roughly $56,000 each. Previously owned/ operated units would cost significantly less and range between $19,000 and $30,000 each.
• Emergency Services - Brighten Your World will collaborate with the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) which has been mandated by an Act of Parliament to respond to and manage disasters and initiate relief operations in Ghana. The primary goal of the Organization is to establish visible street designations for residential and commercial properties in order to improve emergency response times. Since NADMO is already a recognized agency, Brighten Your World will serve in a supportive capacity.
• Nutrition and Access to Clean Water - This basic necessity continues to be an issue in parts of Ghana. Brighten Your World will take appropriate measures to remedy this problem through partnerships with organizations such as Pure Home Water, a non-profit organization founded by Susan Murcutt of MIT. The investment for a ceramic filter that eliminates parasites and other contaminants ranges from $5 to $10.
Although the cost sounds nominal, most people living in Ghana (or Mankwadze) cannot afford the units. Our organization will position itself to supplement the costs involved in bringing clean water solutions to the region. More permanent solutions will involve drilling wells to provide quality water for entire communities, the cost of which is approximately $5,000 per well.
